Devrim Erbil

Devrim Erbil is one of the most important contemporary artists of Turkey and the world. He has held hundreds of exhibitions both in Turkey and abroad, received numerous awards, and delivered many art lectures. His works are featured in museums and distinguished collections not only in Turkey but also across the globe.

Known as the “poet of painting,” Erbil focuses on capturing the rhythm and mystery of nature, as well as the ever-changing motion of life. Nature is his fundamental passion. Through repetitions, vibrations, and dualities—similar yet never the same—he reveals existential inquiries within his art.

The cultural heritage of Anatolia has deeply influenced Erbil’s artistic vision throughout his career. Intercultural connections, historical continuity, and shared aesthetic values are strongly reflected in his series “Variations on Life in Anatolia.”

Istanbul, the city where the artist has lived for over sixty years and to which he is passionately devoted, holds a special place in his art. He interprets this unique city sometimes from a bird’s-eye view, sometimes through multiple perspectives, and often through the music and rhythm of birds’ wings. With the magic of vibrations, he embraces the city and redefines its meaning.

In his paintings, Devrim Erbil aims to convey moments of happiness and the joy of life to the viewer. Like the words of poetry, he places brief yet powerful emotions side by side. His artistic philosophy is to make art more accessible, bring it into everyday life, and share it with wider audiences. He continues to be one of the leading figures in the development, expansion, and integration of contemporary art into daily life in Turkey.
